The Wong and Only Logo Contest receives more than 1800 submissions!

We´ve reached the end of the first phase in the search for a new logo. Graphic artists and web designers all over the world were called to submit their designs and the results are astounding. A total of 3241 designers registered and over 1800 designs were uploaded. This makes Mister Wong’s logo contest, by far, the one of the biggest so-called “crowdsourcing” contests held by a web 2.0 company.

These are the top 10 participating countries:

694 x Germany
476 x France
209 x Spain
186 x China
155 x Mexico
141 x Russia
115 x USA
113 x Colombia

Thank you to all the participants, and stay tuned for the voting process to begin. We will inform you within the next couple of days when the voting will begin.

why do you present logos that clearly DO NOT FIT IN YOUR GUIDLINES ???
this is in my opinion a very bad way of crowdsourcing.

    Hello,
I’m thin k also that it’s will be easier to vote for only a little number of logos that you choose before, no ?
    Friendly

Exactly what I was thinking Svetlana;-)
This is really overwhelming and I beleive things have to be realigned on the track …

this contest has a very bad system! even those designs with logotypes edited (w/c is against the rules) are posted. this has gone crazy. yet, the wong team are so proud of it. well they shouldn’t be. not unless this voting issues has been resolved. I say, we say, the best logos should be voted by the judges alone and not the people at all. or the judges are probably just too lazy to look up all 1800 logos, aren’t they?

  6. Henrik Says:

I hope the judges read this blog and respond on the request on
that the best thing will be that you (the judges) are choosing the final logos.

This will be the most professional solution to select the best logo.

    Good luck !

I think a mix of both would be best: let the jury pick, say, 50-100 favorites for the public voting (take out the logos that are obviously against the rules or don’t fit otherwise and then pick what you like best). Then the crowd votes 12 favorites, and from these 12 favorites the jury makes the final decision. That way quality issues would be resolved and still there would be some influence from the community.

After participating in this contest, doing what the terms said, I still haven’t seen my logos!

But what I really want to write about (and yes it is critics), is that I think this contest is totally UNprofessional!
The reasons are more than one:
1: The “work” of voting makes you go through 62 pages/1843 logos.
Do you really think everyone care to do that?
2: The voting itself includes mostly jokes and not serious comments + a lot of good friends trying to make their friend a winner.
3: A lot of the designs doesn’t fit the terms and laws, but are still in the contest.
4: The jury leaves the work to the public, but how will they make the final decision from all the unserious comments? I hope it´s not about the numbers of comments! That´s still a BIG question to me?
5: By arranging this crowd surfing contest, Mister Wong gets free commercial, because all participants will tell people about it, so they´ll have their votes. There is nothing wrong about that, but a smart commercial stunt from Mister Wong’s side.

And by the way I noticed that the numbers of uploaded logos rise and fall and still I see new logos. I´m not sure if that means that you delete some of them?
And what about updating some facts more often? For example I have no idea how long the voting will go on?

    I agree with Danielle
