We received so many designs (more than 1800), that it took our team quite awhile to sort through and decide on the best way to present them for public voting. We’ve just about got it all sorted out now. Thank you for your patience!
Next week, we will begin the voting process. All registered Mister Wong users will have the chance to vote for their top 12 designs. Yes, there are a lot of designs, but we will be separating them into categories, which will hopefully make it easier for the voters.
We´ve reached the end of the first phase in the search for a new logo. Graphic artists and web designers all over the world were called to submit their designs and the results are astounding. A total of 3241 designers registered and over 1800 designs were uploaded. This makes Mister Wong’s logo contest, by far, the one of the biggest so-called “crowdsourcing” contests held by a web 2.0 company.
These are the top 10 participating countries:
694 x Germany
476 x France
209 x Spain
186 x China
155 x Mexico
141 x Russia
115 x USA
113 x Colombia
99 x Argentina
76 x Switzerland
Thank you to all the participants, and stay tuned for the voting process to begin. We will inform you within the next couple of days when the voting will begin.
From the 5th to the 8th of November, the Web 2.0 Expo will be taking place in Berlin. Alongside experts such as Tim O’Reilly, who coined the term Web 2.0, and Michael Arrington, editor of TechCrunch, Mister Wong will be there to not only sponsor the Expo, but also be represented with a stand and a speech. The organizer of the Expo has offered Mister Wong’s users a special code (MLVEBE03), which you can use to save 100 € off of the conference pass or to receive a free day pass to the Expo. See you in Berlin!

“Nothing makes a person more productive than the last minute”- Unknown.
Coming across this quote today, we were reminded that there are only 5 1 days left to submit designs for the Wong and Only Logo Contest. That still gives you some time to register and submit your designs, but only till midnight (CEST) this Saturday. We know for some, this will mean getting it in, in the last minute.
We’ve been enthusiastically awaiting and viewing the uploaded submissions. At the moment, we have over 2500 registered designers from all over the world and about 500 logos already uploaded on to the contest site for public viewing. It’s going to be tough to make a decision, but that’s where you, our wonderful users, come in to play.
All registered Mister Wong users will get the chance to vote on their favorite 12 designs. This will be a very exciting phase of the contest. We’re putting the decision of which designs our users really like in to the hands of our users. You have the say of which designs will make it in to the next round. Don’t worry, we’ll let you know as soon as voting begins, but you have to be registered. If you haven’t registered yet, do it today.
The first 127 submitted logos are now available for public viewing. You can leave your comments on each design, but voting will not begin until after the deadline for submissions.
If you still haven´t registered or haven´t submitted your logo, don´t worry, there is still plenty of time to participate. So if you think you got what it takes, we suggest you roll up your sleeves and let the world see what you´ve got. We´ll be accepting submissions until Sept. 8th.
Sure we’ve been busy with our International Logo Contest, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been working to improve Mister Wong. We’ve got a few, exciting, new features for you.
Check out the New Profile Page!
When you click on “My Bookmarks” you can now choose to view either your bookmarks or your profile. You can view your profile either in your own private view, which allows you to see your buddies, groups, settings, as well as edit your profile, or you can preview your public profile and see how it looks to others. From the 1st of September, your buddies and groups will also be displayed on your public profile. If you don’t want this, you can already deactivate this setting now.
Just beneath your Buddies and Groups, you will see your settings, as well as a permalink to your public profile page. This way you have a clear overview of your settings, which can easily be edited. And, you can share your profile link with others, so they can check out your bookmarks.
You’ll also notice, that on the Overview page, profile images are now being displayed along with new bookmarks. Profile images spark the curiosity of others, so if you haven’t uploaded one yet, it’s never too late to change that.
We’ve got more to come, so stay tuned for even more features. We really are putting the “social” back into social bookmarking. Till then…
Something’s missing and we need your help to fill that gap. So, we’re holding The Wong and Only Logo Contest - an international crowdsourcing contest in search for our new logo. And we’re giving away $12,000 to find one!
Starting now, till September 8, 2007 all international web designers, graphic artists, and artistically creative people are being called upon on all of our international portals to design a new Mister Wong logo with matching favicon.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to create the new Mister Wong logo, then go to our contest page for all details and to submit your email address.
All submitted designs will later be voted on by Mister Wong users. Every user gets 12 votes. This way everyone gets a say on which design will win – the true web 2.0 democratic way! That’s what we love so much about this contest.
Mister Wong users worldwide will choose the Top 12. The top 12 designs will then be voted on by our jury to find the top three. From the top three, the Mister Wong Team will choose the winner, who will receive $6,000 and the two runners up will each receive $3,000.
And since this is a worldwide contest, we have an international jury:
Peter Rea holds the award of HonProfessor for new intermedia studies, HfK, University of the Arts Bremen Germany and is the initiator and director of the annual international conference, Profile Intermedia and workshops, Bremen Germany, now in its 10th year (2007).
Andreas Milles is an expert in co-creation and alternative marketing methods and is a Brand Evangelist (Teamleader Brand & Communications) at Spreadshirt since October 2005.
Daniela Hinrichs is the Press Spokesperson for XING AG and responsible for corporate communications and press relations work worldwide.
Svetlana Gladkova is a managing editor of the Profy.com blog, making it a reliable source of information for Web 2.0 professionals and building a friendly community of people representing Internet startups, venture capitalists, and early adopters of the best things Web 2.0 has to offer.
Mister Wong is full of joy today ;-) In fact, all of us here on the Mister Wong team are really excited. We’re an international family, and we just got bigger.
After a successful closed-beta, we are finally opening our doors to the public. We’d like to welcome you all to Mister-Wong.com.
We want to especially thank all of our beta testers. We got so much great feedback. We’ve already implemented some of your requests with more on the way. Keep sending in your suggestions on how we can improve Mister Wong for you.
We even created a short video to introduce you to some of Mister Wong’s features:
You may have read on Mashable about our exciting new logo contest. Well, it’s not just a rumor.
Mister Wong will be holding an international contest on all six portals to find a new logo. We’ll be giving away $12,000 total in prizes, with the grand prize winner getting $6,000, as well as their logo on all of Mister Wong’s portals, and two runner-up prizes at $3,000 each.
Submissions will go through a world wide crowdsourcing procedure and be voted on by a prominent international jury of social network experts. In the end, one logo will remain and become Mister Wong’s new mascot.
Further details and information can be found on all Mister Wong sites within the next few days.
Mister Wong held a contest amongst all closed-beta users for the chance to win an iPod. We’d like to thank all of you for participating. Your feedback, questions, comments, and suggestions have been a great help to us, and so we have decided that there should be more than one winner. We have four!
