The Wong and Only Logo Contest
Something’s missing and we need your help to fill that gap. So, we’re holding The Wong and Only Logo Contest - an international crowdsourcing contest in search for our new logo. And we’re giving away $12,000 to find one!
Starting now, till September 8, 2007 all international web designers, graphic artists, and artistically creative people are being called upon on all of our international portals to design a new Mister Wong logo with matching favicon.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to create the new Mister Wong logo, then go to our contest page for all details and to submit your email address.
All submitted designs will later be voted on by Mister Wong users. Every user gets 12 votes. This way everyone gets a say on which design will win – the true web 2.0 democratic way! That’s what we love so much about this contest.
Mister Wong users worldwide will choose the Top 12. The top 12 designs will then be voted on by our jury to find the top three. From the top three, the Mister Wong Team will choose the winner, who will receive $6,000 and the two runners up will each receive $3,000.
And since this is a worldwide contest, we have an international jury:
Help us to find Mister Wong’s new logo! We’re really excited and can’t wait to see the designs you all create.
Submission for the contest runs about one month, which should be plenty of time to work and create a cool design.
If you’re interested in more information or want to sign up go to the official “Wong and Only Logo Contest” site.
Be creative and Wong the web :)

Great! One question: If the new logo is to use the old logotype, can we have at least a vectorized version of that? Otherwise it’s rather time consuming to re-create it. (Or is it already available to download somewhere?). Thanks

Why would you hold a contest for $12,000 not really knowing what you are going to get when you could hire a professional graphic designer to design a custom logo just like you want it for a fraction of the cost? I can almost guarantee you’ll get a better product in the end versus a contest. Most designers won’t touch “contests” like this because it amounts to spec work.
August 22nd, 2007 at 21:29
Frank, if you assume that only a “professional” graphic designers can design a custom logo then you are an idiot. My advice to you is this: If you think you have the talent to win this, then put up or shut up! Furthermore, most designers WILL touch this… that’s what we do.

When will the voting process begin? And where it will be possible to see the voting results?
September 5th, 2007 at 13:19
How if we vote just the bad logos so we wouldn’t have tough opponents? that would be unfair…
September 7th, 2007 at 14:51
there are a lot of logos submitted and most of them aren’t even following the criteria. i suggest to disqualify them first before voting starts. that way, it would’nt be too hard for the voters and the jury. and it would also be fair to those who have followed the instructions.
September 7th, 2007 at 15:11
Why cant i see my logo ? it strange… Ive made exactly that what was required.
September 7th, 2007 at 19:28
Hi!. how we´re gonna do to vote 12 of near to 6000 logos that are submitted?…
it´s such a loooong work to do.
the finalist will be, possibly the most “popular” but not the most very well designed…
All who blooged their entries… or just have a lot of friends…
that´s weird…
September 10th, 2007 at 12:31
Hi, we are still in the process of uploading the final submitted designs from Saturday. This may take some time as there are quite a lot. Please be patient. If you submitted your logo correctly, then it will appear on the contest viewing page as soon as possible.
September 10th, 2007 at 19:57
The problem with this Logo Contest is that anyone (designer + designers friends) having many domain names and a good web hosting account could easily create a whole bunch of fictive users and VOTERS. You see what I mean…?
I think that some official communication from Mister Wong has to be sent out to us to give some explanations before the voting starts…
Also, just like Ale mentioned above, with all these logos submitted how are we suppose to vote?
Will the Wong Staff do a cleaning job before the voting process starts?
September 11th, 2007 at 02:59
Hola, cuando se va a hacer la votación???
Saludos a todos.
September 11th, 2007 at 12:20
I strongly recommend that the judges choose the winner logo alone.
All the participants of the logo contest is not objective, and the finals
will not be the right ones.
LET THE JUDGES DESIDE ANE CHOOSE THE BEST LOGO
September 11th, 2007 at 22:37
Agree with Redunzl and Henrik, I think that at minimum the judges should do some filtering so to say, maybe leave out the logos they really DONT think fit, or something….Just my thought, otherwise as others pointed out. Otherwise been fun to participate.
September 12th, 2007 at 01:04
I agree generally with you Henrik, but there is still one problem. Only “highly trained eye” can “really see” over 1800 works for limited time and people like this is rare. I doubt that everyone in jury can do that, with all respect. It would be better if they divide first phase in two. At the end, they can choose from last 12 (for example: 1800->150,150->12,and then final).
September 12th, 2007 at 10:20
Well…I guess the audience should gain about 30% of the total voting rates, and the rest should be distributed among judges…
September 12th, 2007 at 15:41
Hello,
I can see that some people have a lot of friends or really like their own job !
In the goal to have the better result possible for Mister Wong, I think that the rules should be changed. As say Henrik upper, only the jury should choose the logo… And so the best will win…
Good luke to all of you !
September 12th, 2007 at 16:40
i think it’s a mistake to let the people select the best logos in the first level. we all know what happens: not the BEST get ahead but the “designers” with most connections like family, friends and also fake email-adresses like this one:
http://www.mister-wong.com/contest/index.php?do=vote&i=e0f15830e681ecb45daafb849a8d3764
a horrible “designer” with a lot of friends. so i’m the same opinion like henrik: let the judges choose the best logo!
September 13th, 2007 at 21:04
I hope the judges read this blog and respond on the request on
that the best thing will be that you (the judges) are choosing the final logos.
This will be the most professional solution to select the best logo.
Good luck !

I agree with Hendrik completely. I’m really afreaid the logo with the “most friends” will win. So maybe some changes in the rules would help here…
September 20th, 2007 at 13:38
i’ll be dissapointed by mister wong if that happened
September 20th, 2007 at 18:38
Why the guidelines seem to have changed ?! I though you were looking for a logo but now it appears clearly you are seeking for a mascot only ! And honestly I doubt about the voting process … if it is the public who chose the 10 logos ( mascots now ) , the jury will have to make a choice between 10 bad mascots for sure . Design and communication are serious things , the logo has probably been already comanded to a proffessional designer . We are not fool . And strange i see everyday some new logos who appears from nowhere and seem to be new and better versions of other logos who were already in contest . That contest was just a fake contest in order to comunicate about your website . There are more and more contest like that and unfortunately we have lost our time . I think that serious website about Design should not make advertisement for that kind of fake contest .
September 20th, 2007 at 18:54
Don’t worry the winner has been already selected for a while and i won’t be surprized if he is student of Peter Rea the award of HonProfessor for new intermedia studies ! It is fake contest like Lafraise.com , where the team who makes the pre-selection is composed by professional graphists who also participate to contest and win all the time of course . Purpose of contest makes a lot of people visit the website , same here .
September 20th, 2007 at 19:22
Why comments on blog are awaiting moderation ? It seems some comments are not welcome , yet all logos ( mascots ! ) are selected for contest … Can’t we have doubt about that “Contest ” ?
September 20th, 2007 at 22:03
sure the future “winner” is already known and will be a student of Peter Rea , University of the Arts Bremen Germany
September 21st, 2007 at 03:55
Yes, i cant believed, in this form the winner are most friends designer, and not the best logo… let the judges say last word witout votes…
I think this is a crap!!!
September 21st, 2007 at 22:57
what sophie said…:(
September 22nd, 2007 at 15:57
So that’s makes sense now why they offer 12ooo$ as a prize… coz this is a fake contest!!!
September 24th, 2007 at 18:28
about the possibilty of a fake contest … we are waiting they have finished uploaded all logos to see the voting process starting ! oh really , they were not prepared ? they expected 100 logos for an international contest ? Still we wait because they are uploading all logos … but for more than two weeks , i did not see any new logo and the number of logo does not increase either ! Then ???
October 4th, 2007 at 14:57
Hey! I`ve submitted my logo to the contest… but i dont have my ID to vote…
I thought that only with my “logo contest” account i´ll be able to vote…
good luck to everyone…

Very, very nice work! Thak you.

[...] The international jury had a difficult task in choosing the top three from the 12 logos that were chosen as a result of our user-voting. While many criterias had to be accounted for, the most important ones were the uniqueness and originality of the design, recognizability of the small icon, as well as an obvious reference to our name “Mister Wong” and/or the topic of social bookmarking and its associated connotations.
